Trex Recycling Plastic Materials Program/Contest

Thank you to each of you for agreeing to participate in the 2008-2209 Trex Recycling Plastic Materials Program/Contest for Middleburg area schools.  I have each of you as the designated contact for your school.  If this changes, please let me know.  Also, please note that I copied this email to the Trex contact, Amanda Harrington, who is overseeing this contest.

Here are some details about this contest:

Middleburg Elementary 88 students (contact is Amy Birtel-Smith)
Banneker Elementary 180 students (contact is Debbie Lee and/or Gloria Elgin)
Middleburg Community Center 25 students (contact is Sheri Conrad)
Montessori School of Middleburg 30 students (contact is BethAnn Slater)

Start/Stop Date:
Start: November 1, 2008
Stop: April 22, 2008

Prize:
a Trex bench  made from recycled plastic materials

Additional Awards:
every student will receive a participation certificate on April 22/Earth Day

Participation Guidelines:
Each week every school will turn in the weight of the plastic materials that they have received by weighing it using a basic scale-weighing a person without that plastic and then with (we only want the weight of the plastic, please).  This weight will be sent in via email to Katie Turner and Amanda Harrington (Y2KRTurner@aol.com and AHarrington@trex.com).

All plastic materials need to be delivered to the Middleburg Safeway on their designated day of the week.  Please never deliver more than 4 big bags full of plastic at one time, and please deliver after 3 PM on your designated day.  There is no need to speak with someone at Safeway about dropping these off.  The Assistant Manager is aware of this contest, but has no involvement other than sending the bags to Corporate Safeway who then sells it to Trex.  All plastic materials must come via your school.  If you find a problem with having more than 4 big bags each week, please let me know and we can make other arrangements.

Trex will select a winner based on the school that turns in the most plastic materials based on percentage of students at each school -to make it fair.  A winner will be announced mid-May.  Trex will deliver the winning school their bench.

Other Information:
Trex will supply a large cardboard box for you to use to collect/hold plastic materials as your students bring it in.

Katie Turner will bring you a scale for yoru weekly weigh in if you do not have one.  Please let her know at least 2 days in advance if and when you need this (via email above or at 540-687-5516).

Please be sure and review what is acceptable plastic materials.  You will receive flier/brochures on this when Amanda Harrington makes your school visit.
