CREATING CAPABLE CHILDREN

Learning is active, not passive; children and adults alike learn best by doing.

ā€‹

People learn best when motivation comes from within, and not when they’re coerced by external rewards or competition.

Peace and cooperation are not just utopian ideals, but an orientation and skill set which must be cultivated from earliest childhood.

Ultimately, a worthwhile life has significance to both the individual and to society.

Middleburg Montessori School is an AMI accredited Montessori School that has served children, birth through 15 years. Middleburg Montessori School helps children develop into capable individuals by focusing on their intellectual, behavioral, and emotional development while providing the highest quality teachers to facilitate this development. The Montessori approach is centered on the respect for each child's development of the intrinsic curiosity, and on fostering independence, concentration, coordination, self-confidence, and sense of order. The children work in various areas of the total curriculum, which includes practical life, sensorial, mathematics, language, geography, science, culture and movement.

Our Philosophy
OUR PHILOSOPHY

DR. MARIA MONTESSORI

The primary goal is the development of the human potential. Maria Montessori's approach evolved from her observations of the children in her care. She observed that the child absorbs from the environment she is in, and using specially designed materials she was able to call to the child's inner desire to learn. An AMI trained adult presents these materials to individual children or in small groups.  The independent work that follows a presentation encourages individual hands-on participation in the Primary, and peer problem-solving dialogue in the Elementary and deeper exploration and discovery in the Adolescent. Control of error is built into manipulative materials and charts, encouraging self-confidence and independence. The child is allowed the freedom to be independent within the highly sequenced structure of the Montessori approach and environment.
